Maker Assembly Sheffield Meetup
Wed 20 April 2016, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
We're holding a Maker Assembly in Sheffield
Come along and get involved.
Maker Assembly is a gathering of makers* (and those interested in making*) that aims to bring people together to have a critical conversation about cultures of making: their meaning, politics, history and future.
This informal meetup is an opportunity for people interested in this event to meet each other, share ideas about what it should be and find out how they can get involved. We're holding it in the bar area of Roco, so there will be drinks and bar snacks available.
Our proposed agenda (tell us on the ticket form if you'd like to suggest a change)
6.00 – Arrival, meeting each other, get a drink
6.30 – Some introductions. TBC, get in touch if you'd like to say something. At the very least, Andrew from the core Maker Assembly team will introduce the event, how we've done it before, what resources we can provide, and what we think is an interesting approach for this event
7.00 – Open floor for people or organisations to suggest partnerships or ways they'd like to be involved
7.15 – Introduction to proposed themes and speakers, with a chance to suggest new themes, and shape the programme. This will involve stickers!
7.45 – Pick a date for the event
8.00 – Any other questions, and decamp to the pub for those that want to carry on
* What do we mean by "makers" and "making"? We're talking about people who craft, design, manufacture, tinker with, engineer, fabricate, and repair physical things. Art, craft, electronics, textiles, products, robots. Hi-tech and low-tech, amateur and professional, young and old, with digital tools or by hand. Historical perspectives, what's happening here and now, and how things might change in the future. We aim to be diverse and inclusive. If what you make, or how you see yourself, is a little bit on the fringes, you're doubly welcome.
