Event Details

Time: 6.30-8pm
Venue: Akva, 129 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, EH3 9QG

Find and meet Edinburgh- based metal workers, laser cutters, sackmakers, shellac suppliers, framers, mills, seamstresses, letterpress, water jet cutters, risograph printers, electronics, mould makers, workshops and slipcasters to name a few.

Creative Edinburgh and Make Works are inviting 20 designers and 20 manufacturers to the same room, to have a couple beers, and enjoy some speedy networking. This a bit like speed dating, but for finding new projects and contacts to work with locally (and most importantly, to Make Work!)

Hastened conversations, buzzers, score cards— Maker Speed Dater is an opportunity to have a conversation, learn about what can be made in Edinburgh and, who knows, maybe find that factory you've been looking for for months.

We are joined by Neville Rae from [Old School Fabrications]

Neville Rae [Old School Fabrications]

Old School Fabrications are an East Lothian based creative company that  specializes in the design and fabrication of objects for artists, public spaces, theatre, exhibitions and museums.  Our work covers a wide variety of traditional and contemporary materials to realise projects of varying scale, complexity and budget.  From consultation through to design, fabrication and installation, Old School Fabrication's dedicated team of talented makers work closely with clients to make  sure each commission delivers a project of the highest quality.

Neville Rae is co-director of the business. With fine art backgrounds in sculpture and environmental art, we are interested in working in social, public and gathering areas. We believe it is imperative to design bespoke spaces that integrate and enhance the design of a building and environment to create a unique and attractive area.  Our workshop and studio in rural East Lothian encourages a collaborative and creative approach with the client group, both in its research, development and creative design of bespoke objects. We aim to look at every project from a wide and flexible perspective, allowing us to deliver innovative objects of the very highest standard.

In partnership with;

Make Works is an independent design company that facilitates, celebrates and debates design, craftsmanship and manufacture. We are interested in materials, machines and digital technology. The Make Works Directory makes sourcing factories, fabricators, workshops and facilities simple, allowing you to find local fabricators, material suppliers and facilities.
