Makers across borders
Wed 8 February 2017, 19:00 – 21:00 GMT
While we're stumbling through winter in Lambeth, on the other side of the world makers in Indonesia are basking in sunshine. Experience a little bit of summer in winter with Makerhood's first international event!
Join us for an evening of food, drink and conversation with two Indonesian visitors, where we will be exchanging ideas around the challenges we face as makers and what helps us succeed.
Dr Ellya Zukhaylla is a Lecturer in Industrial Design at the Sepuluh Nopember Institure of Technology in Surabaya, East Java. Ellya's research is concerned with the business of small scale craft production and is currently mapping the contributions of small scale craft production to the local economy.
The evening will kick off with a short introduction to our two visitors, followed by Kim Winter reflecting on her dual role as makerhood director and textile artist, and printmaker Anna Jackson telling us briefly about her work.
We will then move on to the more informal part of the evening: while sharing food and drink, we will talk about the following points within the the context of the similarities and differences with our Indonesian visitors -
- what we make (you are invited to bring an item you've made or are in the process of making to "show and tell")
- the joys and challenges of trying to succeed as makers
- what helps us in this process
- what specific questions or problems we are dealing with right now
- opportunities we can share and ways we can learn from each other
We're meeting at the Brixton Pound Cafe.
Please arrive at 6.45 so that we can start at 7 o'clock.
FOOD AND DRINK IS INCLUDED IN THE TICKET so do help us keep numbers accurate by letting us know if you need to cancel.
