Makers' Yard Art Club with Rachel Gale

The monthly M.Y Art Club is an inspiring space for children to explore their creativity through a curated series of classes for 4-7 and 8-12 year olds. Started up by Rachel back in April 2023, she has so many awesome things ready to share with Frome's budding young artists in 2024! Saturday 20th April has now been cancelled. The next date is Saturday May 25th :)

Who wants to join our club?

Where? Right here at Makers’ Yard in our bright, naturally lit downstairs studio. Each 1 hour class is led by local illustrator, Rachel Gale and has been carefully curated to inspire and guide your child through an array of creative projects. Every session is bursting with creativity, crafty fun and will spark joy in your little artist. From mark making and paper crafts to nature collage and model making, your child will explore a variety of mediums and techniques and come away with something they have proudly created, something to keep and cherish.

Why is it important for your child to create art?

M.Y Art Club is an inclusive space which encourages self expression and confidence building through the art of crafting, making and drawing. With classes for two age groups; 4-7 years and 8-12 years, our art classes have been designed to support your child not only creatively but also emotionally. When your child ‘creates’ they not only develop problem solving and creative thinking skills, they also build self esteem and perseverance whilst refining their fine motor skills. Beneficial for their over all well-being, an outlet for their creativity which develops a child’s emotional intelligence by giving them a way to express themselves.

Rachel Gale is....

a professional illustrator, designer, maker and mother. Living and working from her home studio in Frome, Rachel has a passion for all things nature, colour and typography. She creates designs that are playful and ooze 'feel good' vibes. In her studio practice Rachel works on a diverse range of creative projects for a number of clients and has her own range of planet-friendly gifts, including stationery, childrens books and kids wear. With a background in running arts and craft workshops for children, Rachel is now ready to bring her love of teaching budding young artists back to life through the brand new M.Y Art Club. She is excited to share the many fun classes she has up her sleeve, your little artist will get the chance to make and create something fabulous to bring home in every class.

Promoting positive values, Rachel's teaching method steers away from a ‘step by step’ approach. The framework for each themed class supports your child whilst they develop their own ideas and allows them to create in a fun environment without strict boundaries and expectation. In a safe space for your little artist to create, our aim is to give your child a platform freely express themselves.

Everyone is different and so is the art that we create.

* All materials are provided (they are as sustainably sourced as possible). At your child’s first class they will be given a M.Y Art Club sketchbook and pencil to keep.

Time? There are two classes which run on the same day (one Saturday each month, dates below)

10-11am - for ages 4-7 years

11.30 - 12.30pm - for ages 8-12 years

Note to Parents - You are more than welcome to stick around and sit on the sofas/chairs in the studio or you can drop off your child and collect them once the class is finished. I offer a sibling discount too so don’t miss out on that.

* Your children’s work will be showcased on the M.Y website on their very own M.Y Art Club Gallery and we hope to hold an exhibition later on in the year here at Makers’ Yard too - very exciting!
