Event description
Join us for the launch of our Civic Charter outlining out commitments to Southampton for the 2019/20 academic year and beyond.

About this Event

With over 160 years of experience working with the city and our commitment to social justice, we're proud to be making a difference. With an active community of staff, students and alumni volunteering, specialist facilities and academic expertise the University is home to a variety of assets.

We're proud to have a proven track record in supporting the local community, with the University contributing £193.4 million to the local economy. From our free public lecture series to locally applied research, use of our specialist facilities to offering live student briefs, Solent works with a variety of partners throughout the year.

The UPP Commission's recent report on the role of a civic university made a number of recommendations on what more universities and local communities can do to build long-term, impactful relationships. Join us for the launch of our Civic Charter outlining our commitments to Southampton for the 2019/20 academic year and beyond.

During the evening we'll talk about our ambitions for the year ahead and how we plan to evolve and embed a longer term commitment to the local community within our new corporate strategy.

As well as providing an opportunity to celebrate, you will also have the chance to network with others over refreshments whilst discovering how you can work with the University. Professor Julie Hall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor will provide a short address alongside honorary doctorate Ram Kalyan "Kelly", Station Manager at Unity 101 - one of Solent's official partners.

Structure:

7pm: Doors open.

7.45pm: Short address by Professor Julie Hall.

7.50pm: Short address by Kelly (Unity 101).

8pm: Drinks and networking.

8.30pm: Close.

*** Prior to this event, Solent University are hosting a public lecture, exploring how Southampton’s cultural scene has evolved in reflection to today’s society and how the role of music can play in the future of building a more culturally cohesive city.
