• Need help making academic applications?
• Do you know what employers are looking for?
• Want to know how to increase your chances of getting the job you want?

This essential workshop will help you recognise the factors that enhance your chances of being successful with academic applications and build your awareness of what you may face when applying for posts. Along with reviewing the crucial preparation required to make you shine throughout the selection process you will gain practical tools to help you promote yourself and enable you to present your research in an inspiring way (both in face to face and on paper).

Please can you bring the following to the workshop:
• An up to date CV
• Job Description and person spec. for a role you would like to apply for (plus job advert if you have it)
• Any application forms you are keen to develop.

Aims
• Recognise factors that enhance your chances of being successful with academic applications
• Build awareness of the variety of methods and processes that you may face when applying for academic posts
• Build your confidence in promoting yourself and your research for opportunities – both on paper and in face to face encounters

• Identify what academic departments want
• Review the crucial preparation that you need to undertake to make sure you shine throughout the selection process
• Match your skills and experience to a role that you are keen to apply for (please bring a relevant job description and person specification)
• Present your research in an inspiring way
• Review how to create a personal statement that promotes you for your chosen job opportunity
• Examine your CV, gain feedback and share ideas with colleagues
• Prepare effectively for Academic interviews

Sharon Nicholson: Sharon is a learning and development professional with over 20 years experience. She has a portfolio career, delivering training both as a freelance consultant for the University of Liverpool and for Windmills Ltd where she works across the UK helping professionals to achieve their career goals.
