Making AI Work for Your Business

Interested in data and how you can use it more effectively in your organisation? Hearing loads of hype about AI but not sure quite how you would use it to increase business? Creative Fuse North East are offering an introductory course providing approaches and understanding of how to use and exploit data in organisations. Over three four-hour sessions on a Monday afternoon, you will be provided with an overview of the key concepts, approaches and theories in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Case studies and practical examples will be used to demonstrate and experience machine learning, regression algorithms and image recognition. You will consider how data could be used in your organisation and be provided with awareness and knowledge of funding available to support organisations in innovative AI/data projects.

Course dates: Monday 12th November, 19th November and 26th November

Time: 14.00-18.00

Location: Room 101, Priestman Building, City Campus, University of Sunderland

The course will be delivered by:

Professor Chris Bowerman is a Professor of Data Science and his work is centred around the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in Data Science. Chris has worked across many sectors including security, the creative sector and health.

Dr. Kathy Clawson is a Senior Lecturer in Software Development. Her research includes digital image and video processing, computer vision and pattern recognition and classification. She has developed AI systems for visual perception analysis, security and medical / biomedical science.

Raul Feresteanu is a Software Engineer currently working to prevent fraud using machine learning at Unified Software within a Knowledge Transfer Project collaborating with the University and with support from Innovate UK.

Dr. Caroline Gibby is Head of the Law School having qualified as a solicitor 1990 – and has been teaching and lawyering since then. She currently teaches on the LPC Commercial contract and Commercial law and is Interim Law Clinic Director here at the University. As part of running the Legal Clinic Caroline is charged with ensuring that we are GDPR compliant as well as meet the stringent professional requirements from the SRA and Legal Services Board.

Professor Lynne Hall is a Professor of Computer Science. She has worked on a wide range of AI projects targeting learning, including virtual agents and social robots. She has extensive experience of supporting SMEs in gaining funding to support innovation and disruption in their sectors.

Sam Humby is a software developer applying machine learning and data analytics for Start Energy Ltd within a Knowledge Transfer Project collaborating with the University and with support from Innovate UK.
