Inspired the Jacobites’ White Cockades, this workshop will lead you through making your own mixed textile brooch. Pauline & Paula will use traditional tartans alongside other fabrics in this fun workshop.
What prior experience do I need?
You don't need any prior experience of sewing or stitching at all. This workshop is aimed at beginners, so if you've never picked up a needle & thread before but would like to give it a go, this is for you. More experienced stitchers are welcome but should be aware that this workshop will not be teaching any advanced techniques and will go at a steady pace.
Will I get a lunchbreak?
Yes. We usually break for an hour's lunch at around 12:30. You are also welcome to bring refreshments into the Education Suite. Participants on workshops will receive 20% hot and cold drinks in the Maritime Cafe on the day of their workshop.
What should I bring to the workshop?
We will provide all you need for this workshop. If you've got any offcuts of tartan or tweed fabrics you'd like try using, feel free to bring them along but this is not necessary at all.
Who are the artists leading the workshop?
We are Pauline Shockner and Paula Cooper. We are students from North East Scotland College.
We have both just completed HND fashion and textiles and we are both going on to University in the hopes of completing a degree course.
We both have a lot of experience in sewing, knitting, crocheting etc. even outwith college as we both were taught at an early age by our mums.
Paula lives in Aberdeen while Pauline is a country quine.
We look forward to meeting you and having a creative day.
Where is the workshop?
The workshop is in the Education Suite at Aberdeen Maritime Museum. It is on the first level of the building and is accessible for people with limited mobility. If you are unsure where it is, please ask a member of our Front of House team who will be happy to help.
