Thu 4 May 2017, 11:00 – 14:00 BST
See how costumes are made for TV and film with a tour around BAFTA winner Angels before joining a talk with Ray Holman, costume designer for film, television, and theatre. Holman will discuss his most iconic designs and the thinking behind them, as well as the making; from why he chose the Belstaff coat for Sherlock to revealing the Dr. Who design sketches. Selected costume makers who support Ray will join the discussion and showcase some of their pieces.
BAFTA winner, Angels, is a family business that has been supplying costumes to the entertainment industry for over 175 years, providing costumes for 36 films that have gone on to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design. The ‘Behind the Seams’ tour allows you take a small glimpse behind the scenes of one of the most interesting areas of the film industry. As well as visiting the tailoring and alterations departments to witness first-hand the costume designers and seamstresses creating these award-winning costumes, you will be taken through eight miles of hanging rails contained within the warehouse, housing around one million items of clothing that include some of the most iconic costumes from the history of TV, theatre and film.
