About the To Lavenham with Love project.

Nestled in the heart of Suffolk, the picturesque village of Lavenham and the Guildhall is known for its stunning medieval architecture, vibrant history and a community that thrives on connection. However, as with many small towns, the winds of change are blowing and the question the Community and the National Trust ask is: how do we preserve the heritage and relevance of the Guildhall while embracing the future?

The ground-breaking project To Lavenham with Love’ emerges from this very question, commissioned by The National Trust and the Essex Cultural Diversity Project, The Cultural Assembly seeks answers and ideas to this question by inviting residents and visitors alike to contribute to a narrative that is as rich as the village and Guildhall itself.

Over the next few months The Cultural Assembly are offering FREE workshops and community sessions to provide a platform for residents to share their creative expressions. Whether it’s through poetry, art, or personal anecdotes, each contribution will weave together the fabric of Lavenham’s narrative. The goal is not just to gather data for the Project or document history, but to actively engage the community in shaping its future.

A creative call-out has also been issued to Lavenham residents and visitors across the UK and worldwide. This is a chance for everyone, young and old, seasoned artists and budding creators to contribute to something larger than themselves. The open call seeks work that reflect personal connections to Lavenham Guildhall, whether it’s a childhood memory, a piece of art inspired by the Guildhall or a song that encapsulates its spirit and to create a living archive of creativity that reflects the diverse voices of it's local and international community.

To Lavenham with Love’ is a collective journey that invites the whole community to play a part in shaping the narrative of the Guildhall navigating the power of community, creativity and connection that allows us to honour our rich history while embracing the possibilities of the future.
