Description

Join The Chartered Institute of People and Development (CIPD), and the Association of Business Psychologists (ABP) and other interested parties. This is a Diversity event with a difference. There are three main objectives:

  • Building on the legal requirements so that diversity & inclusion goes beyond compliance;

  • Understanding the part inclusive leadership plays in enabling diversity & inclusion within an organisation; and

  • Learning from experience about what works in implementing diversity & inclusion within an organisation and where it can get derailed.

Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance - Vernā Myers

Join us for this event which will focus on making diversity and inclusion a reality in our organisations. Whilst meeting legislative requirements provides a starting point for organisations, building a diverse and inclusive organisation goes beyond an approach based on compliance. It requires inclusive leadership to support teams that enable each member to be their authentic selves at work.

Many leaders find managing diverse teams a challenge and need support through personal development. It is about adopting a positive mindset and challenging our short cuts in thinking and unconscious biases.

We will be drawing on practical experience of implementing diversity and inclusion in organisations to identify how to make this a success. We will explore some of the pitfalls and challenges involved and how these can be avoided or overcome.

Of particular interest will be the opportunity to hear how business psychology has been applied successfully in taking the D&I agenda beyond compliance and focusing on a new approach to leadership.

The event will involve thought-provoking inputs from our three speakers and opportunities to share experiences and ideas with other participants.

Naeema Choudry. Partner and Part Time Tribunal Judge, Eversheds LLP.

Naeema will use her extensive knowledge of the legal framework to provide an insight into the legal implications of Diversity. However, the best organisations are now looking at delivering an agenda which is going way beyond compliance. This session will build on basic legal requirements and will look at developing best practice beyond compliance. Her legal knowledge of this sector is almost unrivalled and we are privileged to be hosted by her.

Sylvana Storey, Change Management Consultant – Culture & Inclusion

Sylvana Storey is a change consultant and passionate advocate of the constructive use of Diversity and Inclusion and can cite example after example where organisations have benefited from change in this area. She has contributed the section on D&I in the ABP book. This will be a presentation packed with content.

Clare Mulligan, Inclusive Leadership - A New Approach to D&I

Clare Mulligan is a chartered psychologist and works as an independent Diversity and Inclusion Consultant. Clare works with many organisations helping them develop their Diversity and Inclusion strategy, and in developing inclusive leaders.

In this presentation Clare will discuss the current trends in the field of Diversity and Inclusion highlighting why ‘inclusive leadership’ has become so important for creating authentic inclusive workplaces.

Clare will share research and insights, and some ideas for implementing inclusive leadership in your organisation

“Equality is being invited into the room. Diversity is getting a seat at the table. Inclusion is sharing your views and being heard. An inclusive leader enables all of this to happen” (Charlotte Sweeney OBE)

This will be a lively and participative event, highly informative, with much to take away and apply. COSTS
