Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is about how to make the most of each opportunity to help people improve their health and wellbeing and access the support they need.

You can help people make positive changes to their physical and mental wellbeing with brief impactful conversations.


  • Enhance your knowledge: Understand behaviour change theory and master key communication skills to make the most of everyday interactions
  • Small Conversations, Big Impact: Help people in achieve health improvements through brief impactful conversations

This 2 hour live and interactive online training aims to increase you:


  • Knowledge of healthy lifestyle information, advice and guidance
  • Understanding of behaviour change theory and techniques
  • Ability to recognise opportunities to initiate conversations about health and wellbeing
  • Confidence to initiate conversations about health and wellbeing
  • Awareness of where to signpost people for local healthy lifestyle information and support


This training is fully funded by Surrey County Council’s Public Health Department for staff and volunteers from NHS, local authorities (including Surrey County Council and borough and district councils), charity, community and voluntary sector organisations based within Surrey.

Your trainer will be from Surrey County Council’s Public Health Team.

This course will be held on Microsoft Teams. You will need a working and switched on camera and microphone.
