Event description

Description

Making changes such as stopping smoking, improving diet, increasing physical activity, losing weight and reducing alcohol consumption can help people improve their health and wellbeing.

NHS and local authority staff in North West London have contact with thousands of residents every day as part of their daily work. Using these day-to-day interactions to encourage changes in behaviour will have a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of local residents and communities.

What is being offered?
The training is called Making Every Contact Count (MECC), a national programme already achieving positive results across the country.

MECC is a half day training programme for you to develop the skills and confidence to deliver healthy lifestyle messages and be able to signpost people to local services, as part of your day-to-day work. At the end of the training, you will have the confidence to connect and have effective conversations about health and wellbeing, helping to make a difference to people’s lives.

Learning outcomes

By attending this training session, you will:

  • Get an understanding of what MECC is all about and the positive impact it can have on health and wellbeing

  • learn a simple MECC technique to help people make healthier lifestyle changes

  • be able to use interactions with people as an opportunity to identify an issue and encourage behaviour change

  • receive information on signposting to other local services for support.

You talk to hundreds of members of the community every week, so why not take part in our training programme and make every contact count!
