Event description

Description

Facts, alternative facts and fake news are a battleground in debates about health and care on both sides of the Atlantic.

You are invited to examine how unbiased information and evidence are vital for making sense of health and care.

The US debate about repealing Obamacare has been beset by claims and counterclaim. Donald Trump tweeted that ‘thousands of people are marching in the UK’ about a broken NHS to argue against universal health care. Here, polarising debates centred on the Brexit ‘dividend’ for the NHS, claims about the safety of weekend admissions, and on nurses’ use of food banks.

At our event you’ll hear from:

Drew Altman, President and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation on the challenges of providing facts and analysis about health in a ‘post truth’ era.

Will Moy, Director of Full Fact, with a UK perspective about how facts can combat fake news.

Branwen Jeffreys, BBC News Education Editor and Trustee of the Health Foundation, will chair the event.
