Making Hebden Bridge accessible for all project
Mon 8 May 2017, 14:00 – 16:00 BST
We are delighted to invite you to a seminar at 2 pm – 4 pm on Monday, May 8th, which will mark the report-back of the Making Hebden Bridge accessible for all project.
For the past six months, Hebden Bridge Partnership and the Community Foundation for Calderdale, in partnership with Visits Unlimited, have been taking active steps to work towards the goal of making Hebden Bridge an exemplary town in terms of accessibility. An audit, undertaken by access auditor Chris Cammiss, has surveyed over fifty participating shops and public buildings, and each has been given a report suggesting steps to improve accessibility. Small grants to meet the costs of access work are available to participating businesses from the Community Foundation.
Our seminar will provide an opportunity to learn about and discuss the results of the project and will be of relevance to other communities interested in approving accessibility, to those working on issues related to disability, and to individuals living locally with accessibility issues. We will warmly welcome, among others, ward councillors and town council councillors; town board members; Calderdale Council officers with responsibilities for parks, highways, adult social care, tourism development, business support, parking, disability issues, and equality; staff from the Canal and River Trust, National Trust and Environment Agency; local participant businesses; church representatives; and those active locally in the voluntary sector and in community activity.
Chris Cammiss (access auditor and wheelchair user) will report on his overall impressions of Hebden Bridge as an accessible town, and there will be contributions from others who have participated in the project.
The meeting is in the Waterfront Hall, Hebden Bridge Town Hall. The venue is fully accessible and a hearing induction loop will operate. Disabled parking is available opposite in the market square car park, or by prior request from the Town Hall staff.
Refreshments will be served during the event. To enable us to cater for numbers, please book a place for each person attending.
