2-day weekend workshop, plus 2-hour Prep Session // 10am - 5pm both days // Skill Level: Beyond Beginner // Cost: £160 (includes pattern) // Instructor: Cassandra Macindoe // Pattern Options: Jedediah Pants, Ginger Skinny Jeans, Ginger Flared Jeans, or Morgan Boyfriend Jeans
Make yourself a pair of jeans and learn all about getting good fit.
Finding hi-street jeans that are good quality, well-fitting, and suit your style can be difficult at the best of times. So that's why we've decided to show you how to make your very own denims, as well as running you through the process of getting good fit.
Led by Cassandra Macindoe, this two-day workshop will introduce you to the basics of making a toile (a sort of 'prototype garment') and using adjustments to your paper pattern to achieve better fit. Techniques covered will include: sewing with denim, sewing a fly front, belt loops, flat felled seams, patch & slash pockets, and waistbands.
During this workshop you'll make one pair of jeans; but you will also leave with a paper pattern adjusted to your body, allowing you to go home and make as many well fitted pairs of jeans as you like. The course will also provide you with the essential skills that you'll need to go on and make other trouser patterns.
At the end of this course, our goal is for you to come away with:
- A pair of jeans, made by you, in a fabric and style of your choice.
- Your paper pattern, adjusted to your body and fit, so that you can go on to make more pairs of jeans.
- A foundational set of skills that you can apply to other trouser patterns.
- Your 'Making Trousers' e-book with all the techniques covered in class.
There will be a prep session for this workshop on Sunday October 9th, 6:30pm-8:30pm. The aim of this session is to ready you, as much as possible, so that you can be ready to start sewing your jeans at the workshop. As always, it will be a chance for your to pick up your pattern, take your measurements, and choose the right size to make. Cassandra will be covering the basics of tracing your pattern, some basic pattern alterations, and choosing and cutting your fabric.
The prep session is highly recommended. But if you're unable to make it for some reason, and still keen to take the course, please get in touch to discuss alternatives.
When you come to book your place on this course, you'll be asked to provide us with your waist and hip measurements in Inches. If you're not sure how to do this, check out our blog post on taking measurements.
