Making Maps: ArcGIS For Beginners
Thu, 27 Apr 2017, 09:00 – Fri, 28 Apr 2017, 17:00 BST
Join us to learn how to carry out a GIS project from start to finish. This course has been designed for those who want to learn how to use digital maps to represent environmental data and for the safeguarding of natural resources, although you will be able to apply the techniques you learn to any GIS project.
Maps add another layer to storytelling and an extra dimension to data discovery. They are incredibly good at allowing people to visualise things from another perspective, so can be useful in helping to bring about change at the local scale. Digital mapping in particular is an increasingly sought after skill among those looking to hire in the environmental sector.
Designed for complete beginners or users with some previous experience of ArcGIS, this course aims to provide participants with all the tools they need to carry out a GIS project independently.
Using ArcGIS 10.x software, in Section 1 we will become familiarised with the interface and introduced to some core GIS concepts. In section 2 we will begin a GIS project. Topics and workflows are introduced by the instructor and participants will then undertake practical assignments with guidance and demonstrations to ensure full understanding. All practical data will be provided.
