Making Methods Matter: From Doctoral Thinking to Publishing in IJRME
This seminar will share the experiences of a range of academics who have published papers arising from their doctoral work, in the International Journal of Research & Method in Education - with the aim of encouraging other early career researchers in education to consider the potential for submitting papers to the journal.
The International Journal on Research & Method in Education is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal that focuses on contributions to the field of research methods in the discipline of education. The journal welcomes papers engaging with methods from within a qualitative or quantitative framework, or from frameworks which cut across and or challenge this duality. Papers discuss conceptual, theoretical and methodological issues, they provide evidence, support for or informed critique of unusual or new methodologies within educational research, and include innovative and new perspectives.
The doctoral journey presents an excellent opportunity for researchers to engage deeply (and sometimes creatively) with thinking about research methods and methodologies. For some doctoral researchers, the time and space to reflect on methods leads to a realisation that they have something new or innovative to say about methods and methodologies - whether that's about how they have used methods, or the process of engaging with methods, or the structures they have needed to navigate for example.
You’ll hear from IJRME authors about:
- The thinking that led to their paper
- How they shaped (or wrangled!) that into a publishable contribution
- The challenges (and rewards) of the writing and submission process
This free online seminar is ideal for doctoral researchers in education from any institution who are nearing completion, recent graduates considering publication, and supervisors supporting methodological development.
