About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours 30 minutes

We are delighted to announce a conference on Thursday 3 July in London on the topic of ‘Making Public Allegations’. The conference is organised by Professor Nicole Moreham and Dr Jeevan Hariharan. It is generously supported by Victoria University Wellington and the Human Rights Law Centre and the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Institute at Queen Mary University of London.

Speakers include Antony White KC, Jake Rowbottom, David Rolph, Julie Doughty, Fiona Brimblecomb, Rebecca Moosavian, Amy Gadja, Ursula Cheer, Jeevan Hariharan and Nicole Moreham.

The conference will explore how media law responds to those who make public allegations of wrongdoing and what impact those responses have on a range of media actors. It will examine a range of different recent media law developments – in privacy, breach of confidence, defamation, and contempt – and place those developments in their wider societal context (including the #metoo movement). The presenters are leading media law academics and practitioners from New Zealand, Australia, the United States and United Kingdom and, although the papers’ principal focus will be the law of England & Wales, a range of comparative perspectives will also be included.

The conference consists of daytime sessions (commencing at 12:30 pm) and an evening panel discussion (commencing at 5:30 pm). You are very welcome to join us for either part of the day or both – please indicate this when you register.

Please register by Monday 16 June at the latest.
