Working with risk alongside people who may be in need of safeguarding support.

A workshop to consider a range of evidence-based approaches to multi-agency working with risk that are consistent with Making Safeguarding Personal. This to include highlighting examples of guidance and frameworks in use across several Safeguarding Adults Boards.

The day will be facilitated by Jane Hughes from Making Connections (IOW) Ltd, supported by Jane Lawson.

Jane Hughes has worked in social care for 42 years and has been a social worker, social work senior manager and for the last 15 years working as a safeguarding adults trainer and consultant, working with statutory, independent and voluntary sectors, supporting frontline practice through to strategic safeguarding developments. Jane has a wealth of experience in supporting practice to make safeguarding personal and specifically in working with risk.

Jane Lawson works two days per week as Adviser in the Care and Health Improvement Partnership Team based with the LGA. Supporting development of Making Safeguarding Personal is a key focus in this role. Jane has been involved in the national Making Safeguarding Personal programme since 2013.

The aims of the day will be to:

  • Learn about effective evidence-based models and principles for working with risk
  • Share current good practice and approaches
  • Consider perspectives on working with risk across sectors
  • Identify and agree key ingredients that must be integral to all guidance and practice in working with risk
  • Identify best practice examples (to be shared on the LGA website to support wider practice)
  • Identify key messages for a short briefing paper to inform wider learning.
