Making Sense of Autism (for professionals)

This course is part of the Autism Professionals Programme funded by NHS Health Education England (HEE) covering Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Please note this course is not suitable for parents, carers or families.

Eligibility

This course is free to people working in the field of autism and autism and learning difficulties in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Please note this course is not suitable for parents, carers or families. Please do not book a place on this course if you are not a professional working with children and young people in Kent, Surrey or Sussex. You will asked to provide the name of the organisation you work for during the registration process.

About the course

With an estimated occurrence of around 1.6% of children and young people in the UK, autism is an area all professionals working with children and young people need to understand.

Making Sense of Autism will give professionals the opportunity to:

  • Explore autism and all associated areas of strengths and challenges for children and young people on the autistic spectrum
  • Establish awareness of legislation and guidance surrounding autism
  • Learn strategies and approaches for best ways to work with children and young people on the autistic spectrum
  • Go away with a 'toolkit' of resources that will help when working with children and young people with an autism diagnosis.

Timings

Duration: 4.5 hours including a 30 minute break.

Session one: 10am – 12pm

Break for lunch (30 minutes)

Session two: 12.30pm – 2.30pm

This live workshop is being delivered by Zoom and will not be recorded.

A link to the Zoom meeting can be found on the Online Event Page. This can be accessed via your confirmation email and any reminder emails you receive. Please ensure you enter your email address carefully as any mistakes or typing errors will mean you will not receive important information about the course, including the link to join the meeting. West Sussex Mind cannot accept any responsibility if the course cannot be attended because an incorrect email address is provided. Please provide an email address that you have access to regularly.

You will need a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone with a built-in video camera and microphone to access the course.

We recommend you use a PC or laptop as you can see the trainer, presentation slides and other participants more clearly on a larger screen.

Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.

Feedback

Funding for this course is provided by Health Education England (HEE) covering Kent, Surrey and Sussex. It is a requirement that we provide feedback from this event to HEE and therefore you will be asked, either during the session or via a follow-up email, to complete a short feedback form. Please kindly note completion of the feedback form is compulsory if you wish to attend this free event and you will be asked to confirm during the registration process that you will complete the feedback form when requested.
