Event description

Description

Is grief for pets taken seriously enough? How does the human/pet bond extend beyond a pet’s death? This workshop will explore the intimate relationships shared with pets in contemporary British society and how this informs our understanding and management of their death. Many of us treat pets as irreplaceable family members which often leads to the painful experience of saying goodbye. So, this session considers the ways in which the practices surrounding their death draw attention to the boundaries between humans and animals.

Speaker biography: Bethany Robertson is a pet lover and PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of York. Her research interests include human/animal relations, specifically pet-keeping and identity work.
