Event description

Description

The University of Bradford is proud to present an evening with Professor Les Back in conversation with Dr Yunis Alam. This event will take the form of a vibrant, loosely structured and informal interview, with the audience being invited to ask questions during a significant part of the evening.

Throughout the conversation with Les, we hope to explore a range of sociological themes: the changing nature of universities, the meaning and impact of sociological research, and, more generally, sociology as idea and practice in the twenty first century.

While Les is a long established academic, much of his work reaches beyond traditional academic audiences. This event is open to everyone from within and outside of the university.

Les Back is professor of Sociology at Goldsmiths since 1993. Les has published an extensive list of academic and non-academic books and texts, and on a wide range of subjects including ethnic relations, urban studies, research methodologies, migration, film / television, popular music and literature. His most recent work includes:

  • Back, Les and Sinha, Shamser. 2018. Migrant City. London: Routledge. ISBN 978-0415715416
  • Back, Les. 2016. Academic Diary. London: Goldsmiths Press. ISBN 9781906897581
  • Back, Les. 2007. The Art of Listening. Berg. ISBN 9781845201210
