Event description
A fast-paced, interactive & outcome-driven workshop to transform your aspiring Product Manager CV and kick-off your job hunt

About this Event

Looking to become a Product Manager in 2020?

At this full-day workshop you will identify suitable Product Manager roles, refine your CV to highlight your transferable skills and have interview practice to be ready for your job hunt!

Work as part of a like-minded group of people (30 people max). Receive feedback from seasoned recruiters who are hiring PMs for multiple companies and from Sr. Product Managers who have experience of their own career change and hiring aspiring PMs.

In this interactive workshop you will:

  • Identify your transferable skills with guidance from our experts.
  • Identify a set of criteria for product management roles that match you transferable skills and find specific job openings on LinkedIn that are a fit.
  • Refine your CV to make it more marketable for the roles you've identified, get peer feedback and iterate on it.
  • Apply to one of the job openings you found (if you decide to) and celebrate this milestone.
  • Practice your pitch and have a mock phone interview screening.

Who is this workshop for?

You want to become a PM and have started to work towards this goal.

You haven't worked as a PM or have only worked in this capacity informally.

You understand the basics of the PM job as you've done some reading on product management and attended some meetups.

Why should you attend?

You will get a set of tools to reflect on your skills and feasible career move options, align your CV and your pitch to showcase your strengths and practice initial phone screening experience.

You will be guided by experienced people through your career change journey to achieve greater results with less stress.

Finally, you will leave with an updated CV, a pitch, a bunch of templates and frameworks to re-use and a pipeline of jobs to apply for.

How long is the workshop?

The workshop begins at 9:30 am promptly, and will finish at 6:00 pm on Saturday. Coffee, tea and lunch (vegan & non-gluten options available) are included to allow you to spend more time sharing your experience and learning from people at the workshop.

  • Recruiters (agency and in-house) specialising in recruiting for PM roles

Q: I've decided to become a PM but I'm struggling to make the change. Will this workshop be suited to me?

A: Yes, this workshop is specifically designed to help overcome the challenges of the early steps on your career change journey to become a PM. By the end of the workshop, you will:

  • feel more confident about the skills you already possess,
  • have a marketable CV to send around,
  • know the suitable type of roles to apply for.

Q: I have absolutely no idea if Product Management is for me. Will this workshop help me?

A: This workshop will work best for people who have already decided they want to try on the Product Manager's role. While this does not mean you won't get any insights from the workshop, we would recommend you do some preliminary research to first answer whether Product Management is the right fit for you.

We also run a series of meetups that may help you get more insight into the role. You can join them here.

Q: Have such workshops proven to be successful in helping with career change?

A: This workshop is designed based on the series of meetups which have proven traction of helping members to transition into product management roles for more than a year. The workshop consists of the exercises and presenters which received the highest feedback ratings from the meetup members.

The workshop is organised by two seasoned tech professionals who have experienced career change first-hand and went through all the stages themselves:

Anya Epishcheva, Principal Consultant @Amazon AWS

Liz Maslakova, Senior Product Manager @Habito

Q: Is this appropriate if I don't have product management experience?

A: Yes, the workshop is aimed to help people with no official product management experience to transition into the role. There is a multitude of skills that are transferable from other disciplines and make one a great PM candidate. This workshop will help identify such skills and make them visible in the CV.

Q: Who else will be at the workshop?

A: We expect to have up to 30 aspiring Product Manager at the workshop. It will likely be people from various backgrounds (marketing, consulting, engineering, design) who are looking to move into product management and are actively job hunting.

Q: Will I have to get up and speak in front of the group?

A: We will have demo practice as part of each section when our facilitator and one of the attendees will demonstrate the exercise in front of the group. We will ask for volunteers among the attendees, but if you prefer not to speak in front of the group you will be given the freedom not to.

Q: Will I need to prepare anything or bring anything with me?

A: Please bring a laptop and have the latest version of your CV available on it in an editable format.

Q: Can I buy a ticket on behalf of someone else?

A: Yes, you can buy a ticket on behalf of another person. The important part is that we will need this person's email address to contact them about the workshop's logistics. You can email their contact details to us at hello@tobe.pm along with the order number.
