About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Numbers

Demand at mid-summer is normally low - so this is a small course. If the course appears sold out go ahead & book anyway so you go on the waiting list. If there is sufficient demand we will attempt to staff for a larger course and release places accordingly.

The Venue

The venue is the outdoor shooting field for Malvern Archers. It is fully equipped as an archery range. It has a toilet & Manor Park has full clubhouse facilities. There is on-site parking & all required areas are wheelchair accessible.

Tea and coffee will be provided. You will need to bring your own lunch etc.

The course

This is a archery "beginners' course" spread over 4 evenings, designed to train complete beginners to shoot a bow & arrow safely & competently. Everything you need will be provided - please do not buy any archery equipment before completing the course.

You will be trained on 'recurve' bows (as in the illustration), but you will be introduced to both longbow & compound bowstyles during the course.

The course is intensive, and requires candidates to focus for an extended period. A brief prospectus can be downloaded here.

Malvern Archers have been supporting archers for more than 100 years. The course will be run by our ArcheryGB licensed coaches - who are all DBS checked & SafeGuarding trained. Please note that U18 candidates must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course.

The format for this course is four 2.5 hour sessions on consecutive Monday & Friday evenings. This will cover all you need to know to become a safe & effective archer. There will also be an introduction for those wishing to go on and join a club - for instance novices' archery equipment, details of club life and other information specific to our club.

Costs

The cost is £80 per person - you can pay in full now, or pay a £20 non-refundable deposit to secure your place on the course. The balance of £60 will be billed separately, and payment is expected about 4 weeks prior to starting the course. (Adults get a £10 discount on their first full year of membership with Malvern Archers).

Going forward

We hope that you enjoy your course & decide to take up the sport. Completing the course will enable you to join any ArcheryGB affiliated archery club (subject to that club's rules & policies). At the end of the course our staff will discuss with you how to move forward. Malvern Archers have a very proactive approach to supporting new archers coming to us, as well as ongoing development once you are established.

Equipment

All the archery equipment you need to complete the course will be provided. Please do not buy any archery equipment before completing the course! If you join our club after completing the course you will have the opportunity to hire from us suitable equipment for a few weeks. This enables you to gain strength, technique & knowledge, so that when the times comes you can make a better choice of your first kit.

Cancellation policy

W e appreciate that circumstances change, sometimes quite dramatically. Accordingly we have in place the following refunds policy.

  • A ll requests for refunds must be approved by the club's executive committee - it cannot be sanctioned by the course organiser alone.
  • T he deposit (or equivalent part of the full fee) is NOT refundable, and is only applicable to the course booked.
  • Cancellations requested more than 28 days before the start of the course will be offered a refund of fees paid in excess of the deposit or a "roll-over" to our next course (see below).
  • Cancellations requested between 14 and 28 days before the start of the course will be offered a 50% refund of the fee or a "roll-over" to our next course (see below).
  • Cancellations requested between 7 and 14 days before the start of the course will be offered only a "roll-over" to our next course (see below).
  • Within 7 days of the start of the course no refunds or roll-overs will be offered.
