About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours
  • Ages 16+

This is our second race and this year's event is in aid of low cost Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy for Children and Young People affected by psychological trauma. The course is beautiful, fun, technical and demanding. The course covers open upland moorland, deep wooded valleys and forestry, with around 1000 metres of elevation. This year we have added a side race for relay teams of four, to make the event more accesible to runners. Last time it was a draw between a runner and a rider & her horse at 3 hours and 11 minutes. Can you beat this ? Join the event for a greqt sense of community, connection and friendly competition.

Frequently asked questions

How will we indicate we are a team of four ?

We will be in contact with runners ticket holders in advance of the vent to ask you to complete some information for us. As part of this we will ask you to indicate if you are running with a team, and who else is in your team.

If you are close to capacity will my really colleagues be able to get in?

Don't worry. We constantly monitor booking numbers and when we get to 20 under the capacity numbers we will change the ticketing arrangements so that only single runners can continue to apply. As such please make sure that if you are a team you are all applying early and at around the same time

What are the rules

There are a few. Most of them are mainly about good sports personship and courtesy, but there are some fundamentals. particularly for horses there are requirements about veterinary health. Don't worry, we will send these to you via email in good time as the information is too much for a simple FAQ

What is the cancellation policy ?

Eventbrite has its own ticketing cancellation policy but we as organisers are a little tighter on this. This is because we are a small not for profit organisation and the event involves a lot of "sunk costs". We know that stuff happens, so we try to be mindful of this.

How long is the cancellation period

If you cancel four weeks before or less you have the option to find a replacement yourself. Otherwise we cannot garuntee a refund. However, we are happy to talk to you directly in this unlikely scenario

What do we win

Honour, glory, and bragging rights. Well that and a medal for all humans and a rosette for the horses. The overall winner between single runners and riders compete for the Gaby Treharne Cup. Teams will compete for the Pegasus Challenge Cup.

Surely a human can't win against a horse ?

Think again. In forty years of the original race it has been won by a runner three times. In our first race two years ago it was a tie between Robin, a runner and Glenda and her horse. The theory goes that as humans evolved as persistence hunters, over a sufficient distance it is possible

What is the terrain like ?

In a word, challenging. It is 23 miles of forestry, open upland moorland, "technical" tracks. Steep ascent and decent. Some can be shaley. There is a 1000 metres of ascent overall
