Description

Our manager & supporter 2 training course covers meeting the challenges and achieving growth skills courses for managers and supporters in scouting.

The weekend aims to provide you with the skills you need to carry out your role effectively and support others in doing the same. It will allow you to build upon knowledge gained from the independent learning units and apply this to real life scouting situations. It also identifies places where further information and support can be found.

Achieving growth covers:

  • Recognise The Scout Association’s strategic objectives for growth
  • Identify how to promote growth in local scouting and how to produce an effective plan for growth
  • Plan and use effective recruitment techniques
  • Plan for the retention of young people
  • Identify opportunities for flexible volunteering and support, and practice this in the recruitment and retention of adults
  • Identify situations where change is needed
  • Apply effective change management techniques to local scouting situations

meeting the challenges covers:

  • Identify causes of conflict and define appropriate strategies to resolve it
  • Apply The Scout Association’s dispute, suspension and complaints procedures in an effective manner to real situations
  • Apply the Scout Association’s safeguarding procedures to real situations
  • Carry out challenging reviews
  • Prioritise the different challenges faced in their role
  • Identify steps to implement your personal action plan

Independent learning –

There are a number of independent learning modules to support managers and supporters. it is important to complete the independent learning required for each of the modules before attending. The skills modules rely on an understanding of this independent learning as a foundation for the learning. The independent learning that supports our manager and supporter 2 course is noted below. If you wish for further advice please speak to a training adviser.

The following Independent Learning Units are recommended as pre-course learning, if they are relevant to the participants role:

  • Finding, appointing and welcoming volunteers
