Event description
Join other proactive dog owners and learn how to enjoy better, quality time with your dog and help your best friend to live their best life.

About this event

As an owner, it can be worrying when your dog starts to slow down or lose their bounce. You might have noticed your dog seems stiffer after your walk or slower to get going in the morning?

Uncomfortable statistics reveal that 80% of dogs over the age of eight years old will be affected by osteoarthritis, the greatest source of chronic pain in dogs. To put this another way, 4 out of 5 dogs will be in discomfort at best, and pain at the worst, from 8 years of age – and what is worse, you may not even be aware your dog is struggling.

Whist this can initially be frightening, with increased knowledge and understanding, there is plenty you can do to help your best friend live their best life.

No responsible owner wants to believe their dog in pain, but there are subtle signs, and by being more ‘dog detective’, once you know what to look for, there are many positive changes you can make to improve your dog’s quality of life.

My workshops for owners and their dogs look at a range of simple measures you can implement to help your arthritic dog – from spotting signs of chronic pain to simple adaptations to your home, garden, and your dog’s lifestyle, to appropriate exercise and the significant impact that home massage can have on your dog.

Early identification of your own dog’s pain indicators will provide a better chance of actively improving their quality of life, but commonly, many owners will not notice changes in their dog; their ability to engage in their usual activity, how they move, or day to day behavioural changes until their dog has been diagnosed with significant arthritis.

If you’ve already observed changes in your dog’s temperament, behaviour, or capabilities and are worried about what to do to support them, or if they already have a diagnosis of osteoarthritis, you will find this workshop invaluable.

Along with discussing a wide range of ways you can support your dog’s mobility, including exercise focusing on functional biomechanics, I will be demonstrating appropriate massage techniques you can use on your dog and provide individual instruction and feedback to ensure that you feel confident in using the techniques.

Organiser Moorland Canine Galen Myotherapy

Organiser of Managing arthritis in dogs: practical support for owners

I help passionate and proactive dog owners to enjoy better, quality time with their dog, for longer. enabling their best friend to live their best life.

Using clinical massage, soft-tissue techniques and functional biomechanics I work in partnership with dog owners to improve my canine client’s physical and emotional health and maintain maximum mobility through all of their life’s stages.

In addition to providing Galen Myotherapy treatment at my clinic in the Derbyshire Peak District, I run regular workshops, educating owners on the benefits of canine massage and specifically its impact on dogs with canine arthritis, empowering dog owners to take a proactive role in their dog’s health.
