Free professional development sessions for school support staff

Come and join our free Saturday workshops running this spring and summer. Developed in partnership with Unison, this introductory workshop will be presented by a lecturer from The Open University School of Education, Childhood and Youth. This session will help teaching assistants understand the typical pattern of challenging behaviour and how it can be managed; and help raise your confidence in the workplace and build a clear understanding of your roles and capabilities. Certificates are awarded at each session which build towards a dynamic CV and educational learning portfolio.

Managing Challenging Behaviour Workshop Part 2 - Positive behaviour management

We’ll start by exploring some of the frequent reasons why pupils display challenging behaviour, and how these can be managed in advance. You’ll learn about how low-level challenging behaviour can escalate into a classroom crisis, and the suitable strategies you can use to de-escalate the situation. We’ll also discuss the importance of positive handling, recording and pre-emptive management in school.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided, please inform us of any dietary requirements by emailing: s.morris@unison.co.uk
