Event description

Description

A free learning and networking day open to all, about the management of emotional and psychological trauma facing patients and healthcare staff, organised by The Queen’s Nursing Institute.

The programme will explore a range of emotional and psychological trauma that patients can suffer from including as a result of war, torture, homelessness, and adverse childhood experiences.

The event will feature speakers talking about positive approaches to managing this trauma, and ways that services can adapt to become more psychologically or trauma-informed.

We will also explore how healthcare professionals can manage their own resilience in the face of traumatic care.

This learning day is ideal for health professionals, housing and voluntary sector support professionals and people with lived experience of homelessness, interested in furthering their knowledge, meeting others in their sector and contributing their own experiences to help improve care.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Crystal Oldman, CEO, The Queen’s Nursing Institute

  • Professor Suzanne Fitzpatrick, Director, Institute of Social Policy, Housing and Equalities Research, Heriott Watt University

  • Dr Eileen Walsh, Head of Therapies, Helen Bamber Foundation

  • Dr Tara O’Neill, Consultant Clinical Psychologist

  • Janet Keauffling, Nurse for Homeless & Vulnerable Adults, High Street Surgery, Swansea

  • Survivors Speak Out Network

  • Point of Care Foundation
