Description

18 September, 2017, Edinburgh 12:00 - 17:00

25 September, 2017, Newcastle 10:00 - 16:00

This workshop has been developed employing professional experience gathered from the delivery and management of services for people who self-harm.

People with lived experience have had an input in the preparation of materials and are an integral part in the delivery of the training.

This workshop is unique in the sense that it brings academic, professional and personal experience and knowledge together to offer you an all round perspective of this complex issue.

Furthermore, we strive to keep up with current research and practice based evidence, including NICE Guidelines Self-harm: Longer Term Management (2011).

Objectives:

  • Gain the tools to work with people who self-harm on an ongoing basis;
  • Learn how to support people who self-harm to understand their motives and how to bring their issues under control;
  • Understand some of the reasons why an individual self-harms;
  • Explore what research says about self-harm;
  • How to respond to people who self-harm, what to say;
  • Replacement Therapy and alternative coping mechanisms.
