Event description
Managing the Menopause

About this Event

• The menopause is a natural part of ageing that usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age, as a woman's oestrogen levels decline and often marks a major transition in a woman’s life

• It is important not to stereotype women’s experiences as experiences differ vastly and are often affected by the cultural and social context of women’s lives. However, the changes that come with menopause can often affect a woman’s life physically and emotionally often leading to depression and anxiety.

• We will look at understanding the menopause in relation to the effect on our psychological and physical health. The techniques offered will look at ways to manage the physical symptoms and emotional effects of the menopause, how to notice and challenge ‘unhelpful’ thoughts and make small changes in lifestyle which can help us feel more in control.

AIMS

• To explore the Impact of the menopause and different ways of managing this period of change

Objectives

• To explore different experiences of the menopause

• To understand the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model

• To identify the different CBT approaches to manage the menopause
