Newark MIND, in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness specialist, Mary Anne Crook, have pleasure in inviting you to attend their seminar ”Managing the mental health & wellbeing of your staff effectivelyon Tuesday 28 November 2017 at the Newark Beacon Innovation Centre.

The day starts at 9.00am and will finish around 4.30pm.The course is being delivered by Mary Anne Crook who has over 20 years experience in training in health promotion related topics such as Motivational Interviewing, Listening Skills, Stress Management and Mental Health Awareness. She is also a Master Trainer for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and safeTALK with well over 1,000 people trained. Additionally, Mary Anne was a Senior Health Promotion Specialist in the NHS for nearly 25 years and now work as a freelance trainer.

The price of £75.00 includes all course materials and Certificate of Completion, as well as teas and coffees during breaks. There is an on-site café which you will have full access to during the lunch break and there is ample parking for all visitors. Eventbrite may charge additional booking fees.

Course Content:

This one day course for managers and supervisors aims to create mentally healthy workplaces that benefit both employers and employees.

Learn how to:

  • Use an understanding of mental health to support staff wellbeing and manage appropriately and effectively staff experiencing mental ill-health.
  • Develop and support appropriate procedures and policy to manage mental health issues within legal and best practice guidelines.

Objectives:

  • Learn about the relationships between mental health, mental illness and mental wellbeing
  • Understand the benefits of a mentally healthy workplace
  • Explore attitudes to mental health in the workplace
  • Consider how common mental health problems can be manged within the workplace
  • Identify and manage stress in the workplace
  • Understand your obligations under current legislation
  • Underpin work developments with policies and procedures to promote a mentally healthy workplace culture

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits and characteristics of a mentally healthy workplace
  • Distinguish between mental health and mental illness and apply this understanding to all staff
  • Describe how different mental health problems could affect staff members
  • Identify the causes of stress at work and how to minimise and manage stress in the workplace
  • Know how to comply with the employment legislation in relation to mental health
  • Identify where policy development fits into good practice around a mentally health workplace

Those attending will be provided with a resource list for further reading on good practice and details of national and local organisations able to provide further information and support.
