Unconscious Bias: The Cost to Your Business

We're all guilty of being biased, probably without even realising it. However, sometimes that bias can have real financial and legal consequences to your business. So, before it limits your business or staff growth, identify the issue and fix it today!

Have you ever?

Given a task to a 'Generation Y-er' because you assumed they'd be more tech-savy than someone older or with children?

Assumed that the doctor you are about to see is male and the nurse is female?

Reviewed a CV with a listed hobby such as ‘horseback riding’ and assumed the candidate would be more qualified than other candidates?

These biases, often influenced by our cultural environmentpersonal experience and background, can impact decision-making process, judgements and actions, in your business. This practical and educational introductory workshop is packed with advice, examples and practical exercises to help you, and your staff, cost-effectively familiarise and identify instances of Unconscious Bias and provide the tools and solutions you need to avoid it in the future.

  We Will Cover

Part 1: What is Unconscious Bias?

  • What it is and how to identify it
  • Some biases that impact hiring and performance reviews
  • What is the Return of Investment (ROI)?
  • How can you counteract Unconscious Bias?

Part 2: What are the legal risks to your business?

  • Evaluation of real-life scenarios involving pregnancy and maternity, age and sex/gender;
  • The level of risk from tribunal claims your business may be exposed to; and
  • How to minimise that risk from a legal perspective

Part 3: What are the HR Solutions?

  • The key HR processes open to unconscious bias
  • Solutions to mitigate risk
  • Recruitment, Promotions and Redundancy - practical ways to protect your organisation
