MANAGING VOLUNTEERS IN COLLECTIONS CARE
One-day Conference
Presented by South East Museum Peer Development Group
Hosted by Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
Tuesday 8 November 2016
9.30am – 4.30pm
FREE - pre-booking essential
To share successful volunteer projects within museums, South East Museum will be holding a one-day free conference at Royal Armouries Fort Nelson on Tuesday 8 November 2016.
The conference aims to share the Peer Development Group’s experiences of volunteer management in collection care with other collection care and volunteer management professionals. These experiences will be discussed with the objective of improving the management of volunteers in collections care. Each member of the group will present a short paper (20 – 25 minutes) on a topic where they have made improvements.
Keynote speaker Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Time Bank (a national volunteering campaign), will present a paper from the perspective of running a volunteer organisation, giving a fascinating insight from a broader perspective.
The conference will be an interesting mix of subjects including object risk management, case studies and time management. After the conference there will be an opportunity to take a short tour of the Fort Nelson conservation workshops to view some of the volunteer projects underway at the museum.
A buffet lunch will be provided as well as tea and coffee throughout the day.
The conference will appeal to delegates who manage volunteers within museums. The schedule allows for ample opportunity for Q&As and discussion with our speakers. Please see the conference programme below.
