Managing Warehousing and Storage Safely
Many businesses of all sizes have the need for warehousing and / or storage areas in order that they can fulfil customer requirements. This event will look at risk management associated with this type of environment, equipment used and the supervision and training of employees.
It is suitable for owners, managers, supervisors and those with other health and safety interests in warehouses and storage facilities. It will also be useful to employees and health and safety representatives and consultants.
Its aim is to aid in health and safety management, to help reduce injuries and occupational ill health, and help the industry achieve the government’s injury reduction and occupational ill health targets for UK workplaces.

About the Speakers
Steve Cowen - SEMA Technical Committee Chairman
Steve worked for one of the major racking companies in the UK prior to forming my own consulting practice, Cowen Associates Ltd who offers services to a wide range of Suppliers and End Users and Trade associations. Cowen Associates are retained by SEMA the “Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association” where I chair the UK Racking Industry Technical Committee with responsibility for drafting Codes of Practice and Design Standards for these Products. I represent the UK on various committees sometimes through the British Standards Institution. In addition, I have represented SEMA in providing an input to HSE publications on Racking Safety including HSG 76 “Warehousing and Storage; A guide to Health and Safety. "
Andy Cartwright – Technical Manager, Mentor Training
After leaving the Army, Andy joined Sainsbury’s working in their distribution centres, eventually as a training Manager. He then joined Mentor FLT Training in 2002 – working as an instructor, area manager and now Technical Manager. He has worked all over the world providing training on material handling equipment.
He is a registered AITT Forklift Instructor and sits on the AITT Council and Standards Committee, writing the training manuals for forklift training for the accrediting body (AITT). He is also an IPAF Instructor, Senior Instructor and Examiner and sit on the IPAF Training Committee.
