Managing Your Sporting Archives: What is an Archive?
Event Information
About this Event
In the first of three talks aimed at sports clubs and societies, Laura Yeoman, Archivist (Access and Engagement) at Explore York Libraries and Archives Mutual Ltd will explain what archives actually are, and how they can help telling the story of your club.
By the end of the session you will have a clearer idea of what archives are, what you should be looking to keep to help tell the unique story of your club, and how to create a basic box list or catalogue. These tips will help you identify what you already have, and what you might be missing. No experience is necessary – this talk is aimed specifically at beginners and those without a previous knowledge of, or interest in, history.
Please also see the other two talks in this series:
- ‘Managing Your Sporting Archives: Storing Your Archives’ will explain how you can preserve your collections in-house for much longer, and the issues you need to be aware of.
- ‘Managing Your Sporting Archives: Using Your Archives’ will cover ways you can use your archives to promote your club, engage with fans and supporters and attract new audiences.
An Explore York Archives event supported using public funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
