Event description

Description

A unique cultural event to commemorate the forgotten story of the fall of Manchester Hill in 1918.

Join some of our city’s best and most exciting musicians, artists and new talent to rediscover and remember this piece of forgotten Manchester history, in which 79 local lives were lost.

Presented by Brighter Sound, Manchester Histories and Manchester City Council, the event will feature exceptional new music by Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra, The Breath), John Ellis (Cinematic Orchestra, Lily Allen), Luke Flowers (Cinematic Orchestra, Corinne Bailey Rae), singer-songwriters Seaming To and Liam Frost, and composer Katie Chatburn. Together they will present work specially written with a selected group of Manchester’s emerging musical talent.

This poignant performance will also feature:

  • Award-winning poet Michael Symmons Roberts

  • Music from the King’s Division Brass Band, Northern Voices Choir and the Ignition Orchestra

  • Spoken word artists Young Identity, featuring Isaiah Hull

Digital multimedia artist Rebecca Smith of Urban Projections will provide a stunning visual backdrop to the event with digitally mapped projections exploring musical themes and archive materials.

Tickets are free - we advise booking as soon as possible as numbers are limited.

Doors at 7.30pm.

The performance will be approx. 1 hour long. This is a standing performance. There will be limited priority seating for people who may have difficulty standing for this duration of time.

Please note this event will be filmed and made available to the public. This event will contain flashing imagery.

Manchester Hill Remembered is presented by Brighter Sound, Manchester Histories and Manchester City Council. It has been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund and has received support from The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment through the Armed Forces Community Covenant, and by Manchester Cathedral.
