In this session we will explore Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), an approach to managing very difficult, challenging, even violent behaviour.
About this event
In this session we will explore Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), an approach to parenting which helps parents to recognise when they are escalating a situation, how to prevent further escalation and repair the relationship between the child and the parent before moving on to address the behaviour. NVR is particularly effective for work with children and young people who demonstrate violent behaviours. Many of the skills are transferrable to our youth, children’s and family work settings, and an understanding of NVR will not only help you in your work but also give you the knowledge to help you signpost parents to training, as well as be an effective supporter for them. Based on the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Martin Luther King Jr., it is a particularly favoured approach in the adoption community where training has been offered, and it has been proven to be very effective. We will cover:
• What is NVR?
• Recognising and countering escalation
• How to say less – learning to not have the last word
• Repairing relationships
• NVR and your role as a C/Y/F Worker
