Manor Park and Forest Gate Community Resilience Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
This workshop has been created from feedback collected from the two the Newham Introductory Community Resilience Workshop and will be looking at Manor Park and Forest Gate Neighbourhoods. Everyone is more than welcome, whether you've attended previously or not, especially if we are currently not running a workshop in your neighbourhood.
Do you want to help your community be prepared for emergencies such as fires, floods or power outages?
Communities are usually the first to arrive at an emergency and stay behind to help after it has passed. Resilient communities are better prepared to respond to an emergency and recover without long lasting negative impacts.
The community response to Covid-19 in Newham has shown Newham's incredible resilience, and many organisations and groups are already responding to this emergency on a daily basis and working closely with the Local Authority.
The British Red Cross's Community Resilience Team bring expertise in emergency preparation and response, and are working together with Newham's residents and voluntary, community and faith sector and Newham Council to ensure that if and when further emergencies strike, the community is ready to respond and recover together.
This workshop will be an opportunity to focus on collaboration and communication during emergencies, something which was highlighted and requested in the Introductory workshop. This workshop aims to create some clear and actionable solutions to increasing communication and collaboration among the voluntary, community and faith sector but also with the local Authority as well.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Additional Opportunity: We will also be recruiting volunteers for the programme. We are looking for people who would like to take a leadership role in engaging their local community to better prepare, response and recover from emergencies. Though not required, candidates should have some relationship with, or knowledge of, local groups, faith-based groups/organisations etc.
- As a volunteer you’ll receive full training and an induction to help you excel in this role.
- You’ll gain and enhance transferable workplace skills that’ll last you a lifetime.
- Being a volunteer for the British Red Cross means that you can proudly say you are part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and know that you are making a difference to people’s lives.
