Event description

Description

The Bronte Sportive, organised by the Manorlands cycling events group, is a challenging cycling event in the heart of the West Yorkshire Pennines.

Our 9th event, which is partnered with All Terrains Cycles and the Queensbury Queens of the Mountain cycling club, will take place on Sunday 21st July 2019.

As in previous years, there will be four routes to suit all abilities: Anne (29.2 miles), Emily (50.3 miles), Charlotte (74.5 miles) and Heathcliff (93.1 miles). Though by no means the longest sportive, the Heathcliff route, also known as the Bronte Monster, is recognised as being mile for mile one of the toughest sportives in the UK.

This year there will also be an optional hill climb challenge in Haworth in memory of Chris Mitchell. More details about this will be released later.

There is no obligation for participants to fundraise but obviously we are grateful to those who do. Those who raise £50 or more in sponsorship will be entered into a prize draw to win a prize donated by our partners at All Terrain Cycles.

Start and cut-off times

The event starts and finishes at the Leeds City College Keighley Campus. Charlotte and Heathcliff riders will set off in waves between 7.30am and 9.00am, while those doing the Emily and Anne routes can set off between 8.30am and 9.30am.

Any riders who have not reached the feed station at Carleton by 2.00pm will be diverted onto the Anne route and will follow the 10.2-mile route back to the finish. The finish area will remain open until 6.00pm.

Routes

Everyone who takes part in the Bronte Sportive and has a Garmin-type device or smartphone with Strava will be automatically entered into the 600m Chris Mitchell Memorial Hill Climb in memory of Chris Mitchell, who was cared for at Manorlands Hospice.
