DOROTHY HEATHCOTE was a pioneer in the development of drama methods in teaching. She is perhaps best known for the “Mantle of the Expert” system, an enquiry method of teaching, in which children are asked to think of themselves as a fictional “expert team” of some kind. They might be people running a museum, for example, or a travel agency, etc. They carry out a variety of tasks, to complete a "commission" from a fictional "client." The choice of team, and the different tasks, are designed by the teacher to meet curriculum targets.
The course is led by DAVID ALLEN, Artistic Director of Midland Actors Theatre, UK (MAT). David runs the Facebook group, the Commission Model of Teaching, and the website www/mantlenetwork.com. He has trained teachers in schools in Mantle, at primary, secondary and higher levels.
