AN INTRODUCTION TO MANTLE OF THE EXPERT: TEACHING THROUGH DRAMA

This session will provide an overview of Dorothy Heathcote’s Mantle of the Expert system, a way of teaching the curriculum through drama.

It will look at an example of a Mantle project which Dorothy herself led, based on the true story of Mary Morgan, and the events that led to her tragic death in 1806. It will outline some of the strategies that Dorothy used, and the thinking behind them.

The session is aimed at teachers at different levels of education, both primary, secondary, and higher. It will appeal to people who are new to Dorothy’s work, as well as people with some experience in using drama in the classroom.

The event is a prelude to a forthcoming certificated training course in Mantle, which will begin in September.

The event is free. You will be sent a zoom link, prior to the event.

This event is led by DAVID ALLEN, Artistic Director of Midland Actors Theatre, UK (MAT). Dorothy Heathcote advised the company on a number of Mantle projects for schools. David has also trained teachers in schools in Mantle, at both primary and secondary and higher levels.
