Each week will be a different lesson covering the various map reading and compass skills - this course is progressive so ideally you need to attend all lessons.

Lesson 1: Sunday 30 May 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx.

Lesson 2: Sunday 06 June 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx

Lesson 3: Sunday 13 June 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx

Lesson 4: Sunday 20 June 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx

Lesson 5: Sunday 27 June 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx

Lesson 6: Sunday 04 July 2021 – 19.00 to 21.30 approx

This course will cover map types and uses, symbols, grid references, contour interpretation, route planning, height climbed adjustments, navigation techniques (i.e. pacing, timing, relocation) handrailing, aiming off, compass use and emergency procedure. We start right at the beginning to get the foundations right to be able to build good knowledge going forward. Sessions come with support documents, weekly practice projects and revision videos.

This is not a certificated course. However, you will receive a confirmation of attendance and the learning and time taken would be able to be considered if completing a discounted NNAS Bronze Navigation course through Compass Hill Skills and Ventures later this year if allowed by future restrictions.

Each course session on Zoom is recorded and is loaded on Vimeo as a password protected video for your private use for revision or in the case that you have missed a lesson and wish to catch up. You will be asked for your permission to record at the beginning of each session, however if you do not wish to be recorded please let me know prior to the course as this would be helpful to know. The private videos will be available online for up to 12 months.
