About this event

BTWSC/African Histories Revisited, TAOBQ (The African Or Black Question) presents in association with Friends Of Marcus Garvey Bust Collective and Brent Museum and Archives the fifth Marcus Garvey Annual Pan-Africanism Presentation 2021: Black Pound Day, Garveyism, Pan-Africanism: Should Be Shut Up Shop?

This is an inclusive, family-friendly event.

This year, history consultant Kwaku assisted by community activist Nana Asante will facilitate a round table-type discussion among participants and special guests to interrogate the question:

“ Black Pound Day as a brand may be a year old but the concept is old. Garveyism and Pan-Africanism have been around for more than a century. In 2021 do they serve or can they provide a useful service for Britain's African communities, or do we need new concepts to govern our lives in a post-George Floyd world? We also wish to have this discourse in the context of it being 40 years since the New Cross Fire/Black People's Day Of Action.”

The forum is open to anyone* in the meeting to improve our knowledge of pan-Africanism invoking the "each one, teach one" mode.

*NOTE: This paid-for event is expected to attract people who are either serious about learning, or sharing their knowledge, about pan-Africanism and its history, and living a productive life in the Diaspora.

The event is part of marking  UN's International Decade For People Of African Descent (IDPAD) initiative.

This is meant to be an inter-generational event, so you are welcome to bring young people.

When booking, you can also express your interest in making a short oral presentation/contribution (must provide title/subject matter) to guarantee having a chance to contribute during the meeting.

Produced by BTWSC/African Histories Revisited in association with Friends Of Marcus Garvey Bust Collective @ WGLC and Brent Museum and Archives. For enquiries: btwsc@hotmail.com.
