Description

After the fire of 1866, which destroyed the north wing of the Crystal Palace, a new public attration took its place with great success - the largest marine aquarium of that time, designed by the first professional aquarist William Alford Lloyd.

This illustrated talk will take you all the way from the moment the idea of the Sydenham aquarium was born, through its years of success and to the point of its slow decline.

The talk starts at 19:00, 16th April, Tuesday, 2019, doors open 18:45. The talk to last 45 minutes followed by questions. Visitors will be welcomed to browse the Museum afterwards. When attending this event, please use the Anerley Road entrance to the Museum as the park will be closed.
