About this event

We are holding an informal open-afternoon for interested parties to come along and find out about the Maritime Volunteer Service. You will have an opportunity to meet the team behind the new unit of the service in Edinburgh and ask any questions about membership or the work we get involved in.

Membership is open to ages above 18, with or without maritime experience. Training is provided and those with previous experience are also welcomed.

The event will take place at the Malmaison Hotel, Leith, between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 16th August. Please report to reception upon arrival and you will be directed to the room where you will meet the team.

Is there an upper age limit to join the MVS?

There is no longer an upper age limit to join the MVS. There are different levels of membership, from land-based suppoters through to List A 'Active' members who go afloat and need a reasonable level of fitness.

Do I need prior experience/qualifications to join the MVS?

You do not need any previous experience or qualifications to join the MVS. We train members up to RYA standards and can provide certification such as RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA DSC VHF, RYA First Aid, Day Skipper and more.
