About this event

Mark Cherrie - Steel Pan

Ross Stanley - Piano

Nigel Thomas - Acoustic Bass

Eric Ford - Drums

Mark has enjoyed a career in music, spanning over 40 years. His earliest experiences of playing live music began in his father’s band at the age of 14. Playing the steel pan has been an ongoing passion and Mark has had the opportunity to travel the world playing this amazing instrument, for all sorts of audiences. Then in 2016, Mark was offered some free studio time to record a steel pan led jazz project, which went on to become “Joining The Dots”, an album rated 4 ★s in the Guardian. Recording sessions have included Gary Barlow & Disney.

Mark has also played keyboards professionally in his career, touring with Jimmy Ruffin, The Drifters, Edwin Starr, Odyssey and Ronnie Laws. Mark also toured the former Soviet Union with soul singer Precious Wilson back in 1988, who was the first female soul singer to have toured there.

Mark’s experience in music technology led to writing for JW MediaMusic in 1993. Since then, Mark has written and recorded over 30 albums to his name, with a total in excess of 600 titles, featured on 100’s of TV shows, including Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER, The Fresh Prince and many more.

Ross Stanley is one of the UK’s top jazz pianists – constantly in demand for his flowing creative and lyrical playing. His soloing is profoundly steeped in complex harmonic tension and release but always serves the music and is universally revered by both fellow musicians and the wider listening public alike. Ross’s musical skills have kept him in high demand, seeing him play with names such as Eddie Gomez, Pino Palladino, Seamus Blake, Jim Mullen Organ Trio, Deodato, Dennis Rollins and has toured with Maceo Parker, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Zigaboo Modeliste, Steve Ferrone, Hamish Stuart, Goldie, US3, Trevor Horn. Ross is a Hammond endorsee and also received a British Jazz Award in the Organ Category 2016.

Eric Ford has been based in London since late 2006 and is involved in lots of interesting musical projects with musicians from many countries. He enjoys working across the spectrum of music, from Clare Teal, Jason Rebello, Pee Wee Ellis and Marc Almond to Jim Mullen, Kevin Glasgow and contemporary jazz trio Partikel, plus "world music" projects with Stefanos Tsourelis, Maciek Pysz and others. He grew up in Southport (near Liverpool) and read English at the University of Birmingham, where he played for four years with the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Eric has played on nearly 60 released albums and one film soundtrack, and given drum "masterclasses" at the China Drum Summit in Beijing (in 2015 and 2016, sharing the bill with Dave Weckl, David Garibaldi and Mark Giuliana amongst others!) and in London. He's performed at Ronnie Scott's on multiple occasions, at the Jazz Cafe with Ronnie Laws, and at the Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall, and festivals in Europe, North America and China.
