Marketing for Creative Organisations

Creative Businesses in and around Bury are invited to a meet up to discuss marketing in the creative sector.
Guest speakers Jo Kay and Helen Palmer will be sharing advice and tips for creative companies about marketing strategies and audience segmentation.
As always there will be a discussion and networking segment of the Bury Think Tank giving creative professionals the chance to discuss their marketing approach and connect with new businesses and organisations.
The event is on Wednesday 3 May 6-8pm at Bury Art Museum and will bring together all businesses working in the creative sector to hear from those who will be sharing their expert tips and guidance for marketing.
Professional creative’s such as designers, artists, photographers and those working in cultural attractions are encouraged to come along, the event is free and refreshments will be provided.
This event is tailored towards creative companies working in Bury and around the North West, however organisations working outside the creative industry or outside the area are more than welcome to come and take part if they feel it would be beneficial to them or their organisation.
Jo Kay - Audience Development Specialist
With over 15 years’ experience working in the cultural sector in the North West and across the UK, Jo has helped people in arts organisations of all different shapes and sizes.
Examples span from the volunteer-run Ribble Vally Jazz and Blues Festival in a rural Lancashire market town to Manchester International Festival in the heart of the metropolis.
Jo works with all artforms: including craft, galleries, museums, historic houses and libraries, touring theatre and dance companies, festivals, orchestras and concert halls, theatres and arts centres.
Until recently Jo was the Regional Director, NW at The Audience Agency and so has a wealth of experience in getting the best out of the national research programme Audience Finder, as well as the audience segmentation model Audience Spectrum.
Helen Palmer – Director of Palmer Squared
Helen’s background was originally in theatre, having worked in the marketing departments of the Library Theatre and the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester amongst others. Helen became a consultant in 1999, before creating Palmer Squared in 2005 with her twin brother Andrew, where she has consulted with a diverse range of cultural organisations, networks and partnerships across arts marketing, cultural tourism and audience development.
Helen has a particular track record of being part of the founding management teams for a number of major new projects, developing the strategic marketing functions and leading the delivery of the marketing and audience development plans, including Manchester International Festival, Asia Triennial Manchester, British Ceramics Biennal, Cultureshock (Commonwealth Games 2002) and The Lowry. From 2007-9 Helen also led Marketing Manchester’s Marketing Coordination Unit as the Director of Strategic Marketing. Helen is one of the Directors of Creative Tourist, providing strategic advice and tactical support for cultural tourism initiatives across the country.
