Description

Workshop for Small Presses & Independent Authors

Specifically designed for authors and small presses, this two hour marketing and publicity workshop will focus on how to create impactful campaigns with tiny (or zero) budget. We’ll cover such topics as: how to use social media if you’re time stretched; how to mobilise your authors to promote their titles; how to write a press release that hooks with the first line; how to garner great endorsements for your authors; creating book jackets that will grab attention; best practice around creating a marketing and publicity campaign, and how to engage with literary editors, reviewers, bloggers and radio producers.

Julia Forster will be running this session. She has had twenty years experience of working for small presses – from working as in intern at PN Review in 1999 to setting up the marketing department for Nine Arches Press in 2016. In between, she has worked for Barefoot Books, Alastair Sawday Publishing, DK, BCA and the Shirley Stewart Literary Agency. She is now the marketing and publicity officer at New Welsh Review, an associate of Ruth Killick Publicity as well as a Reader/Mentor for TLC and a bursary panelist for Literature Wales, having written two books herself. Julia will prepare tips sheets for all participants and will foster a safe atmosphere of peer-to-peer learning in the workshop.
